Currently the world is at a tipping point in terms of the concept of Push and Pull marketing.

By this I mean conventional Advertising models propose that we have to create and build Brands at huge expense over long periods in order to create an environment where consumers will place trust in the Brand ,and which should result in significantly higher purchases resulting in greater market share and profit.

With the maturing model of the Internet, and allied to the younger generation who grew up with the Internet, this is all about to radically change.

Future strategies will be dependent on a greater mix of community centric electronic or social media (Facebook, Linked-in, Twitter, Blogging) to create Brands where personal recommendation will be more important than above the line branding. Companies that mange to win the consumers trust and recommendation will reduce their transaction cost of doing business, whilst other companies that continue in the current (old) model will face increasing costs and the reducing business. Significant shifts in purchasing patterns will turn major corporations with established marketing and distribution channels into dinosaurs unless they evolve and re-invent themselves in the next few years.

EI and the Digital Media Revolution

We are currently involved in the new Digital media revolution and are researching solutions to assist companies embrace the future – profitably and over a realistic time frame. The accepted concept of having a website, and by implication therefore having an Internet strategy, is analogous to having a fully staffed retail store that prospects pass but few have any interest in visiting.

Quite simple most websites meeting corporate branding are purely for show and do not add value through additional sales. This has to change or the younger generation will ignore them and purchase elsewhere. Currently the average 15 year old is highly Internet literate and would rather purchase (almost anything) online than visit a mall. All they need is to start earning money and ...

We plan to deliver effective solutions that utilise new Internet channels that deliver sales and profit. Having a shopping basket on your company website is important – but only if consumers are recommended by communities to buy from your company.

In line with EI's commitment to international best practices EI has joined DAMA The Data Management Association of Southern Africa.

DAMA International is a not-for-profit, vendor independent association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices for data resource management and enterprise information. DAMA International has chapters and members throughout the world, DAMA SA being the chapter for the Southern African region.

DAMA SA will promote discussion, education and interchange of ideas on all topics broadly related to Data and Information Management, and will promote regional activities to bring DAMA closer to all its members.
